Where in the World is Cardamom Grown?
India, Guatemala and Sri Lanka and the main sources of green cardamom. Brown cardamom, known locally as “large cardamom”, is primarily sourced from the mountainous regions of Nepal. Smaller amounts of cardamom are produced in countries like Indonesia and Tanzania, contributing to the global supply.
These regions are known for their ideal growing conditions, which include high humidity and well-drained, rich soil, making them perfect for cultivating this aromatic spice.
Once while on Yoga Retreat in Kauai with our teacher Dr. David Frawley, we witnessed as he located wild cardamom pods growing at the base of a tree while on a hike. It was a special experience of seeing fresh cardamom at its source in a native environment.

Cardamom is also rich in minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium, which are important for heart health and muscle function.
