My First Experiences with Mantra Meditation and Mantra Chanting
My first introduction to mantra meditation was in 2003 when I learned a mantra meditation practice. I noticed immediate benefits from mantra experiences such as better sleep, clearer memory and being more alert! I have continued this silent mantra meditation practice until this very day!
In 2008 mantra practice became even more a part of my life when my wife Shankari came back from her first mantra retreat in India. Shankari had come home with a Mantra CD from Yogini Shambhavi that had various mantras on it.
Every time I was driving in the car this CD would start playing and in about 3 months I began to realize that they had an effect, and that effect was soothing and calming, yet with a focus!! I could not believe there were such noticeable benefits of mantra chanting, and that I would experience those benefits so quickly.
My Mantra Experiences
I often found myself intrigued by the multifaceted nature of mantra. However, it wasn’t until I delved into
my own practice of Mantra Yoga that I truly began to understand the profound connection between
sound, mind, and spirit.
My mantra journey continued with a sense of wonder but also with a hint of apprehension. I did have
some uncertainty around the concept of using sacred sounds or phrases, however, as I had already noticed benefits of calm and focus I decided that I need to give mantra practice a good chance.
Our teachers have instructed and explained that mantras are not merely words but potent
vibrations that resonate within the depths of our hearts and being.
With each repetition, we were encouraged to immerse ourselves fully into the inner sound, allowing our consciousness to align with natural divine intelligence to reverberate throughout our body, mind and heart.
Not only did my meditation practice deepen, but I also began to notice more calm and focus when incorporating mantra with my personal yoga asana practice.
A Personal Mantra Journey
As I continued exploring mantra practices, I initially felt a sense of hesitancy and self-consciousness
creeping in as I stumbled over unfamiliar syllables. Yet, with each repetition, I surrendered to
the rhythm, letting the mantra carry me beyond the confines of my doubts. Gradually, the
words ceased to be merely sounds and transformed into a profound expression of inner
harmony.
I have had moments where the vibrational energy was permeating every fiber of my being,
creating a sense of alignment and peace.
There have been many experiences in serious or uncomfortable situations where my mind quieted, and I found myself enveloped in a state of serene stillness. It was as if the mantra acted as a bridge, connecting me to a deeper sense of nature.

Increasing Confidence with Mantra Practice
Ultimately, words can’t really describe the feeling of confidence, focus and peace that has unfolded through my experiences of Mantra Yoga. The results have been evident in helping me into a deeper connection with my higher capabilities.
