I feel honored to write this review for Shankari and Yogesh, two Spiritual Teachers who have been instrumental in my personal growth. I have studied with them for over 10 years first enrolling in their Ayurveda healing program and continuing to participate in their courses, workshops, and retreats. During times when I struggled to show up for myself, doubted my abilities or simply could not see a way out of suffering, Shankari believed in me and held a patient space. Together, they have held a loving mirror that has helped me see the possibilities of living a happy and healthy life. Yogesh and Shankari run their business with incredible organization and progressiveness, all the while staying deeply rooted in the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda. Gentle Yoga That Meets You Where You Are
Understanding Senior Yoga & Chair Yoga for Seniors
Senior yoga is a specially adapted approach that prioritizes joint care, balance, and nervous system support. These sessions are ideal for older adults who want to stay active, improve flexibility, and reduce stress without overexertion.
A key part of our approach is chair yoga for seniors. This gentle, seated style of yoga allows you to build strength, improve posture, and enhance circulation while staying fully supported. It’s especially helpful for those with arthritis, mobility challenges, or chronic pain, offering all the benefits of traditional yoga without getting on the floor.
How Chair Yoga Classes Help You Move
How Chair Yoga Exercises Help Seniors Stay Strong and Balanced
Chair yoga classes include modified poses performed while sitting or using a chair for balance. You’ll move through easy stretches, gentle twists, breathing exercises, and grounding movements – all adapted to meet your comfort level.
These chair yoga exercises for seniors help increase range of motion, reduce stiffness, and support everyday mobility. Best of all, they can be practiced by anyone, including those recovering from injury, managing chronic conditions, or returning to movement after a long break.
Whether you’re in a chair the whole time or use it for extra stability, chair yoga brings the joy and calm of yoga within reach, no matter your age or ability.

Benefits of Seniors Yoga & Chair Yoga
Improved Flexibility
Seniors yoga helps seniors maintain and improve flexibility by gently stretching muscles and joints, reducing stiffness and increasing range of motion.
Increased Strength
Yoga poses safely engage various muscle groups, leading to improved strength and stability, which is crucial for maintaining independence and preventing falls.
Better Balance and Coordination
Many yoga poses focus on balance and coordination, helping seniors develop better proprioception (awareness of body positioning) and reducing the risk of falls.
Joint Health
The gentle movements and stretches in yoga can help lubricate the joints, alleviate stiffness, and reduce arthritis-related discomfort.
Stress Reduction
Seniors yoga incorporates deep breathing awareness and mindfulness practices that promote relaxation and reduce stress levels, enhancing overall mental well-being.

Your Questions, Answered with Care
FAQ for Seniors Yoga Classes
Is it too late to start seniors yoga?
Not at all! It’s never too late. Our gentle yoga classes are designed especially for mature adults, whether you’re brand new to yoga or returning after a break. We meet you exactly where you are—no prior experience or flexibility needed.
What if I’ve never done yoga before?
Perfect! Many of our students are beginners or have very little yoga experience. Our classes are calm, welcoming, and paced so you can move safely and comfortably. No pressure, no expectations—just simple movement, gentle stretching and breathing practices to help you feel better.
What if I have a medical condition, injury, or limited mobility?
You’re in the right place. Our teachers have years of experience supporting people with arthritis, osteoporosis, joint replacements, degenerative conditions, and recovery after injury. Let us know what you’re working with, and we’ll offer safe, personalized options just for you.
Are the seniors yoga classes done entirely in a chair?
Not unless you need them to be! We offer chair-supported options, but most students move between seated, standing, and floor postures—always with easy adaptations available. You can do the full class in a chair if that’s what feels best for you, and you won’t miss a thing.
Why are class sizes small?
We keep classes intentionally small to create a calm, peaceful environment where each student can be seen, heard, and supported. This allows our teachers to offer personalized guidance and hands-on or verbal adjustments when appropriate, ensuring your comfort and safety.
What should I bring or wear to class?
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in—anything stretchy or loose-fitting is perfect. Dressing in layers is helpful as temperature can vary with increased circulation. We provide all the props you’ll need (chairs, bolsters, blankets, etc.), but recommend you bring your own mat and a cushion if you prefer. Extra mats are available upon request
What props are used in class?
Lots—and we love them! We use chairs, pillows, bolsters, and blankets to support your body in each pose. Props make movement more accessible, reduce strain, and allow you to experience the benefits of yoga without overexertion. Also, it’s the journey of each pose, not the destination — we emphasise ease, balance and strength over “pose-perfection”.
Will I be able to follow along if I have hearing, vision, or balance challenges?
Absolutely. Our teachers give clear, step-by-step instructions with visual demonstrations and check in regularly. If you need additional support or clarification during class, we’re here to help—quietly and respectfully.
What if I can’t get up and down from the floor easily?
No problem at all. You can use a chair for seated postures and for support in standing poses. If you’d like to try getting down to the mat, we’ll show you how to do so safely and with plenty of props—no heroic efforts required.
Please note: you must make your way down a set of stairs to the studio entrance.
How will the teacher know what’s right for me?
Our teachers are trained in Ayurveda (the Yoga sister-science of health care) and take time to get to know each student and offer personalized guidance based on your unique needs. If you share your health concerns or physical limitations with us, we’ll tailor your practice with safety, comfort, and care in mind.
